Edilma L. Yearwood, PhD, PMHCNS-BC, FAAN is Chair, Department of Professional Nursing Practice at Georgetown University School of Nursing & Health Studies. She is a nurse researcher, educator and certified clinical nurse specialist in child and adolescent mental health. Her research and scholarship has focused on underserved, immigrant and vulnerable populations situated within a respectful and empowerment model. A qualitative researcher with a focus on community-based methodology, she has extensive exposure to social determinants of health with African-American and Latino children, adolescents and families. Her research has looked at parent-child communication with at-risk youth, youth transitioning from foster care, child-rearing practices of immigrant Jamaicans and youth identified research recommendations. Her scholarship has focused on data from these studies, microaggression, impact of culture on wellbeing, mood dysregulation in immigrant youth and youth violence.
