Dr. Spence is an Associate Professor of Practice & Director of Public Health Nutrition at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She holds a PhD in Human Ecology with a major in Nutrition, a Masters degree in Nutrition and a Master’s in Public Health (Health Planning and Administration subspecialties). Her areas of interest include school and community-based interventions to prevent childhood overweight/obesity and the promotion of healthy environments; as well as youth leadership and advocacy development to improve school and community health environments. Dr. Spence has written over 24 publications and has served principal investigator on a number of local, state, and federally funded projects and initiatives.
