Program Manager, Embedding Cultural Diversity and Cultural and Linguistic Competence: A Guide for UCEDD Curricula and Training

Wendy Jones is a Research Instructor in the Department of Pediatrics, Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C. She has been associated with the Georgetown University Center for Child & Human Development (GUCCHD), University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, for the past 20 years and has served in various capacities. Ms. Jones is a bilingual/bicultural, special educator and social worker with a bachelor’s degree in Education, a Master’s degree in Bilingual Special Education and a Master of Social Work. She specializes in advocacy, support, and training for individuals and families with limited English proficiency and families with intellectual, developmental, educational and emotional disabilities.

Currently, Ms. Jones is a Senior Policy Associate within the GUCCHD. In this role she performs both capacity building and clinical tasks on projects dedicated to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and the systems that serve them. Ms. Jones is the Program Manager for the D&I TAP and is involved in multiple aspects of the project. In addition, Ms. Jones coordinates the mentoring and Learning and Reflection Forums conducted by the Leadership Institute, and serves as faculty during the project’s annual Leadership Academy. In a different position funded by the DC Developmental Disabilities Administration’s (DDA) Health Initiative, Ms. Jones uses her clinical skills in the role of parent educator/coordinator for persons with IDD. In this role she interfaces with personnel from DDA, provider and related service organizations with and on behalf of the parents and children she serves.

Ms. Jones is the former director of the National Center for Cultural Competence’s (NCCC) Children & Youth with Special Health Care Needs project.
